The first sea-crossing cable car system will set in motion near the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) in three weeks, linking Nha Trang resort town to Hon Tre island, some 3km offshore.

The VND96 billion (US$6 million) gondola, invested by Vinpearl Land resort in the central Khanh Hoa province is 3,320m long, extending across eleven tower spans.

It takes a passenger about nine minutes to travel one way via the gondola, which will run 47 eight-person cable cars.

The cable cars can operate in winds under 61kph, according to designers.

Ticket prices are VND50,000 ($3) for an adult and VND40,000/a child to go one way.

The modern system, which took over a year to construct, is able to carry 1,500 passengers an hour, and was constructed by the French group Poma.

The system will provide a unique bird’s eye view of the Vinpearl Land resort, Nha Trang, and the local marine environment.

The Vinpearl Land resort is situated on Hon Tre island in an area of 150 hectares with 500 high-class rooms with a variety of facilities for sports, entertainment and leisure.
