Contest to find promising film actors begins in town
17:00 16/04/2009

The HCMC Association of Cinematography in collaboration with HTC Corp. and HCMC Television will hold a contest titled “Future Star” from April 20 to May 2 to find promising actors and actresses.

People aged 16 to 30 with education from grade 10 or above are eligible to enter. Candidates can go to www.ngoisaongaymai.vn for regulations and applications.

First prize is VND30 million, second prize VND20 million, third prize VND15 million and the three consolidation prizes VND5 million each.

The final round of the contest will be shot at Dai Nam Tourist Area and aired live at 8:30 p.m on HTV9 and BTV9 on May 2.

The contest, known by its old name “Finding the promising actor/actress,” has been held by the association for 18 years and has helped Vietnam’s film industry find new talent, including actors MC Quyen Linh and Truong Minh Quoc Thai and actresses Trinh Kim Chi, Hong Anh, Nguyen Minh Thu and Ngo My Uyen.

After a two year hiatus, due partly to a lack of sponsorship (2007 and 2008), the association re-launches the contest this year with its own logo and website (www.ngoisaongaymai.vn).

The Vietnam film industry needs talented, attractive actors. Asked at a press conference in HCMC on Wednesday if the winners have a chance to make a movie, Nguyen Chi Tan, deputy general director of HCMC Television, said that there would be many opportunities for the winners nowadays. In particular, HCMC Television needs actors and actresses for about 1,000 serials per year.
