Danang welcomes first caravan since Tet
13:50 04/03/2009

A 29-car tourist caravan of 85 Thai tourists entered Danang in central Vietnam Sunday as the first foreign travel group to hit the city since the Tet Lunar New Year holiday, which fell on Feb. 17.

The group entered Vietnam via Lao Bao checkpoint, one of two gates bordering  Laos that allows foreign caravan groups into Vietnam. The other is Cau Treo in Ha Tinh northern province.

The squad visited Ngu Hanh Son mountain, one of the most popular sites in Danang, and went shopping before departing for the old heritage town of Hoi An, 30km from Danang. The group returned home the same day.

It is estimated that and increasing number of caravan groups from Thailand and neighboring countries will flock to Vietnam in 2007 as the new Huu Nghi (Friendship) Bridge, inaugurated in December, connects Thailand’s Mukdakhan province to Laos’ Savannakhet.

On March 4, another caravan tour of 60 Thai visitors will arrive in Danang.
