Historic town to host Japan-Vietnam culture festival

      Hoi An Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will showcase Vietnamese and Japanese culture at a two-day festival beginning Saturday.

The fifth Vietnamese-Japanese Culture Festival will host a photo exhibition by renowned Japanese photojournalist Oishi Yoshino.

Yoshino’s show, entitled ‘The architecture of ancient Hoi An and Kyoto”, reveals her deep love and understanding of Vietnam, a country she first visited in 1966. Possibly the most successful female photojournalist in Japan, Yoshino has visited Vietnam several times and has made the country a main focus of her work.

The festival’s opening ceremony will begin 7:30 pm on the Hoai River square stage with traditional Vietnamese and Japanese dance performances.

The festival will also include demonstrations of Japanese tea culture, Origami paper folding, calligraphy, Vietnamese and Japanese folk games, Japanese cooking courses, and tours of Hoi An.

The event will also include screenings of films about Vietnam’s environmental problems and seminars on environmental pollution with Japanese and Vietnamese experts.

The Hoi An People’s Committee (local government), the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Vietnam-Japan Human Resources Cooperation Center have organized the event.
