Mekong provinces to host National Tourism Year

      It’s the turn of the Mekong Delta next year to host Vietnam’s annual National Tourism Year and it has lined up a slew of activities, a conference heard in Hanoi Wednesday.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the delta’s Can Tho city held the conference themed Miet vuon song nuoc Cuu Long (Natural features of the Mekong Delta). 

Next year’s festival aims to promote both tourism and the investment to the region.

Chief organizer and deputy leader of the Can Tho administration, Pham Phuoc Nhu, said his city and the five provinces in the delta would host over 30 tourism events during the period.

There would be a Mekong Expo, construction, agriculture, and international shipping trade fairs, sporting events like traditional boat races, traditional arts shows, food fetes, and others.

With the festival and inauguration of an international airport, Can Tho alone expects to attract over two million tourists next year.
