17:00 15/12/2003
The Folklore of Quang Ngai Seaside Residents, a research paper by Nguyen Dang Vu received the “A” second prize of the Vietnam Folklore Arts Association on December 12. Just as in the previous year, the judges awarded no first prize.
Two “B” second prizes were granted to Songs of Marriage of the Muong Ethnic Group in Thanh Hoa, by Cao Son Hai, and Cuisine of the Muong Tac People, by Dinh Van An.
Eighteen A-grade third prizes, and 11 B-grade third prizes were also presented.
There were 85 researchers participating in the Contest. The oldest author was Mr Nguyen Khac Xuong, 81, while 31-year-old Vu Quang Dung was the youngest.
The jury board selected 41 works to be awarded in the final round.
“Many of the award-winning works examine the culture of ethnic groups,” Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, member of the board said. “This year, there are many valuable pieces, which uncovered rich resources, written in both Kinh and other dialects”, he added.
However, Mr Vuong said it is a pity that there is no research on folk sculpture or performance.
Representatives of publishers also attended the ceremony to select the best studies to print.
