Southern province festival to promote local ecotourism

  Ba Ra Mountain – a tourist site in Binh Phuoc province   Southern Binh Phuoc province, some 180km from Ho Chi Minh City will host the 2007 Ba Ra Mountain Festival to promote the province’s vast ecotourism potentials.

The festival will offer interesting cultural activities such as game show “Talk to mountains”, “The lo o bamboo torch” camp fire , mountainous food festival with special dishes including com lam (rice cooked in bamboo pipes), grilled meat, and wild vegetables.

The participants will also have a chance to enjoy ruou can (jarred rice wine drunk through straws popular among highlanders), and a musical show presenting sounds of gongs performed by S’tieng ethnic group.

Ba Ra mountain is not only a beautiful spot in the south-eastern province of Binh Phuoc but also is a historical site where visitors come and learn about the heroic deeds of Phuoc Long's people during the national liberation wars.

A monument there commemorates the brave Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the wars, one of the most-visited sites in the province.

The 733-meter high mountain surrounded by lush and dense trees spreads down to more low-lying areas.

Visitors can enjoy an incredible panoramic view from the slope of the hill, especially the Thac Mo romantic falls, the 12,000ha Long Thuy Lake and mysterious mountainous caves.

The festival will take place on the first day of the Lunar New Year on February 17, and last for six days.
