Vietnam tea festival kicks off in highland resort town
12:43 04/03/2009

The 2006 Tea Festival started Thursday night in the highland Lam Dong province, Vietnam’s largest tea-grower, with thousands taking part in parades and music shows.

At the resort Da Lat Town’s main square, a parade to launch the festival started at 8pm, featuring 36 famous Vietnamese tea brands, including green and the less common black tea, from across the nation.

A music show themed “Beauty and Fragrance of Vietnamese Tea” followed, drawing the participation of nearly 1,000 professional and amateur artistes, who attempted to introduce famous tea growers in the past 80 years.

Tea products, processing techniques, and the tea ceremony are to be showcased for domestic and international visitors.

There will also be a display of more than 200 ancient tea sets made in Vietnam, China, and Japan, many of them over two centuries old.

Lam Dong, around 300 km from Ho Chi Minh City, accounts for 27 percent of the country’s tea output.

The festival is to run until Sunday.
