Culture centres offering activities in a variety of fields in Ho Chi Minh City are becoming more popular among city youth.

Huynh Thi Quynh Hoa, head of the HCM City Youth Culture Centre’s culture and art office, said art and cultural clubs are attracting young people because of their active, dynamic atmosphere.

The Youth Cultural Centre, one of the city’s most popular, has about 30 arts clubs as well as sports and other clubs.

The Workers’ Palace is also one of the city’s big culture centres, with 41 sports and cultural clubs and a total of 1,160 members.

Nguyen Thi Hang Nga in District 3, a member of a dancing club at the HCM City Youth Culture Centre, said she joined to not only have fun but improve her health.

After she gets off work, Nga and her friends often go there to relax.

Apart from activities organised for members, administrators of the clubs also organise events for the public or charity activities.

The Youth Culture Centre’s Don Ca Tai Tu Club (Club for Traditional Reformed Opera) has held performances at the April 30 Park in District 1.

Audiences at the performance were treated to a tea ceremony, thanks to the centre’s Tra Viet (Vietnamese tea) Club.

In addition, the poem writing club at the Workers’ Palace has organised visits and presented gifts to charity organisations in the city and neighbouring provinces.
