Budget airline Jetstar Pacific Airlines to offer more domestic flights from major centers from June

Vietnam’s budget domestic carrier Jetstar Pacific Airlines will add extra flights between major cities from June.

The airline announced Monday it will increase flights between Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Danang and the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.

On the Hanoi-HCMC route, the airline will fly 10 return flights a day, including an early flight at 7 a.m. from Hanoi.

Flights on the Hanoi-Danang route will double to two a day and the number of flights between HCMC and Danang will rise to four a day. The airline will also offer a daily return flight between Hanoi and Can Tho City.

Jetstar Pacific will continue offering one return flight between HCMC and the central cities of Hue and Vinh and northern Hai Phong City, as well as between Hanoi and the central coastal city of Nha Trang.

The airline said the extra flights were aimed at stimulating domestic tourism and providing passengers with a more flexible traveling schedule.

Jetstar Pacific is Vietnam’s first low-cost airline and the second biggest airline operating in the country. The airline was transformed from Pacific Airlines to Jetstar Pacific in May last year when Australia’s Qantas Airways Ltd. bought an 18 percent.

In February, Jetstar Pacific announced a 50,000-seat sale to stimulate air travel within Vietnam, Saigon Times newspaper reported.

Under the sale, tickets for travel between March 3 to May 21 are available from VND250,000 (US$14.30) for single flights between HCMC and Hanoi and Danang and Hue and from VND500,000 ($28.60) for flights between HCMC and Hanoi, Hai Phong and Vinh, and Hanoi and Can Tho.

Also Monday, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced it would slash airfares by half for war veterans and heroic mothers between Hanoi and the northwestern province of Dien Bien until October 31. Heroic mothers are women who lost family members during Vietnam’s last two wars.

The discounts are part of the airline’s promotional program to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Vietnamese forces’ May 7 victory over the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1954.
