Eleven paintings featuring Viet Nam’s first licensed comic book character Canh Sat Truong Ti Hon (Little Sheriff) are on display HCM City’s Fine Arts Association.

Little heroes: A digital painting by Nguyen Thanh Lan entitled Who is the Super Thief?

The creators of the character, McKids Comics, have used oil, mixed media and digital paintings to portray the little sheriff and his friends.

Five video clips shown at the exhibit show how the comic book figure was created and the book compiled and produced.

Tre (Youth) Publishing House publishes the comic book monthly, according to Nguyen Phuong Thuy, head of McKids Comics.

Targeted at a primary school audience, the comic book centres around the life of Bim, who is viewed as a little sheriff by the police and his two friends LiLy and Tun.

The comic book characters have been used as a mascot for the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation’s Child Helmet Public Awareness Campaign in HCM City and ASEAN-member countries.

McKids Comics, a Vietnamese-owned company, hopes to sell the licensing of its Little Sheriff character abroad.

Overseas companies who purchase such a licence have the right to copy and distribute copyrighted works or characters without fear of copyright infringement claims made by the original owner.

The Little Sheriff exhibition can be seen at HCM City’s Fine Arts Association at 218A Pasteur in District 3 until April 18.
