17:08 04/03/2009

Two leading tour operators in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietravel and V.Y.C Travel, have decided to launch caravan tours to Laos and Thailand this month.

V.Y.C Travel will organize a nine-day tour starting June 20 from HCMC to Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos. It will cost US$420/person.

Vietravel has announced a tour called Drive Isuzu Challenge 2007 to Laos and Thailand to promote two brands of Isuzu cars, Hi-Lander and D-Max.

The four-day tour, due to depart from the central city of Danang June 14, will take 120 visitors to Laos and Thailand on 40 Isuzu vehicles via the second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.

Tour operators report that both local and foreign tourists are showing strong interest in caravan tours.

Tran Xuan Hung, deputy director of V. Y.C Travel, said his company not only organized caravan tours to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand but also arranged such trips to Vietnam for right-hand-drive vehicles from Thailand and Cambodia.

Phung Cu, director of the Danang branch of Tan Hong Service and Trading Co., said his agency had received 200 right-hand-drive cars last May.

Soon, it would welcome two groups of 200 tourists on caravan tours to the central region.

The Vietnam National Ad-ministration of Tourism is also planning a program to develop caravan tours, allowing tourists to travel by cars and motorbikes larger than 175 cc.

Vietnamese regulations ban foreign visitors from using such high-capacity motorbikes.
