Southern metro sees marked rise in foreign tourists
11:44 04/03/2009

The number of international travelers to Ho Chi Minh City in the first nine months has risen by around 18 percent compared to last year, city tourism officials said.

Over 1.7 million international tourists had arrived during the period. Nearly 200,000 arrived in September, which was 10 percent higher compared with August.

The visitors were also spending more, mostly on shopping.

October was normally the peak season for foreign arrivals but this year they had come a month earlier.

The numbers were set to rise further with the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit scheduled for November, they said.
