Vietnam imperial city to be spruced up for international festival
19:01 04/03/2009

The Vietnamese government has approved a facelift for Hue city, the former imperial capital, so that the international Hue Festival can be held on a larger scale than ever before.

The project involves expanding and sprucing up several venues like the Huong River and Royal Palace where traditional cultural ceremonies will be organized, ecotourism spots, and sporting and other entertainment facilities.

The cultural festival, likely to be Vietnam’s biggest, will see art, poetry, and food typical of the royal town, handicrafts and other local products, and music and fashion shows by many famous artists from around country and abroad.

The biennial festival, which began in 2000, lasts some 10 days.

In 2006, it attracted more than 1.5 million people including nearly 12,000 foreign visitors.
