Vietnam province to develop craft villages for jobs, tourism
17:27 04/03/2009

Quang Nam province in central Vietnam announced Tuesday it would invest VND350 billion (US$21.7 million) through 2010 to preserve and develop craft villages.

The program also aimed at creating more jobs and tourism products.

The money would come mostly from official development assistance (30%) with central and provincial funds, loans, and others making up the rest.

The province hopes to develop 100 craft villages by 2020.

It now has 61 craft villages, of which 41 are traditional ones over 100 years old. Some provide jobs to two-thirds of local workers.

The villages contribute 30-35 percent of the province’s industrial output.
