RIAV wants licenses and labels axed
17:00 24/03/2004 The Recording Industry Association of Vietnam (RIAV) has lodged an urgent appeal with the Government, requesting simplified procedures for licensing of recordings and protection against piracy.
![]() RIAV has asked to the Government to abolish regulations concerning production licensing, saying the length of time taken to obtain a license means losses for the industry. The RIAV Deputy Chairman said it was ridiculous to have to obtain both a production license and a distribution license. He said that while producers must obtain licenses to produce and distribute disks and tapes within 20 days, overly complicated procedures have led to extensive industry losses. RIAV members also proposed reconsideration of regulations on labels attached to finished products. They said they spend millions of VND on labels, yet they achieve little by way of protection for goods.
